Hectec day, Pulled oil pan plug for Sat. morn oil change on 2000 silverado with a 4.3L and the magnetic end of the plug looks like a hairy wire brush! 138,000 miles. Is it to late? Truck runs like a top. Put new radiator in it 2 days ago, of course. Last oil change I did along with changing intake man. gaskets due to water leak. Wonder if I left something in there. Hmmmm. Any suggestions. Thanks!

Ugh! You've got metal in the oil.
If you still have the old filter you just pulled off, cut it open and see if there's a large amount of metal in the filter.
When the intake gasket was leaking, was it getting water into the oil?
I'd run the truck for about 500 miles, and drain the oil again, see how the drain plug looks.

I agree, check the old filter if you still have it. Also another oil change very soon is a good idea. Get a filter mag and attach when you change your oil next. I'd change the oil every couple hundred miles until i didn't find any trash in the filters.

No, no water in the oil fortunatly, and thinking back on it I did a bonehead thing and cleaned the surfaces with a wire brush on a wheel. I'm sure a couple broke off. Maybe I'll get lucky for once in my life. I'm going to tear open that old filter and take a look. Thanks guys. 500 and change it again sounds like a plan.
