purchased a 55 2 weeks ago and have only driven it a few times. Runs strong, 383 mild build w/ electric fan added to stock radiator. Motor shut off a couple times and fired right back up, until I guess it got too hot and vapor locked????

Anyone had experience with this? I researched it, and apparently it was an issue back then.

Vapor lock usually occurs when the motor is shut off for a short period of time and then restarted. The motor and fuel lines have time to heat soak and boil the fuel out of the carb/fuel lines. I doubt what you had was vapor lock, more likely some other kind of fuel starvation or ignition problem.
