Task Force Cracks Down On Illegal Street Racing
POSTED: 6:32 am PDT October 6, 2004
UPDATED: 6:47 am PDT October 6, 2004
LOS ANGELES -- A multi-agency task force arrested several people during a crackdown on street racing in the San Fernando Valley Tuesday night. Officers made the arrests near the corner of Saticoy and Haskell in Van Nuys shortly after police say they observed the suspects participating in a street race. Authorities made about 12 arrests -- five of whom were juveniles. They also seized the two cars involved in the race, which will be destroyed. The operation was put on by officers from Valley Traffic, Van Nuys Division and Community Effort to Combat Auto Theft. Investigators say the crackdown comes as a result of the recent street racing deaths of several high school students in the San Fernando Valley.

Well it's more of the same, the authorities have been trying to keep a damper on street racing for many decades.
Back in the 60's LAPD was using Olds 442s complete with NASCAR roll cages to try and keep up to the street racers.
And yes, street racing has had its share of injuries and fatalities over the years, kind of a "Fate is the Hunter" kind of thing. When your walking the edge, sometimes you get cut.

There was a solution, it was known as Terminal Island Brotherhood Raceway. If you want your voice to be heard to stop the needless dying, "silence the voilence, increase the peace". You can call our Mayor of Los Angeles- Mayor Hahn- and tell him how you feel even if your from another city, people from all over came to T.I. to race. Let him know that the solution's out there,
Re-open Brotherhood Raceway Park.
213-978-0600 That is the mayor's direct line, try it, see if I'm lying. LOL, leave a message if you do, remember, he is a elected official up for re-election, he will listen.

For everyone who called-Thanks, the mayors offices was flooded with calls and they set up a voice mail box to leave messages. If you left a message, the mayor gets all his messages, lets hope he GETS THE MESSAGE. For those who have not called yet, it's not to late to call and tell him how you feel and it's ok if you from out of state. People raced at Terminal Island from all over.

Everyone who called Mayor Hahn, especially the out of state calls, give yourself a pat on the back 'cause the mayor called Big Willie yesterday and assigned someone from his office to work our details on return a track to Los Angeles-T.I. is closer to return to L.A. but not to get everyone's hopes up this has happen in the past but it is still a step forward in the right direction. UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FAIL!!!
It aint about the money for the mayor, it is bigger than that, it is about his reelection. Street racing deaths has reach the global news headlines status. It is big news right now and if he wants to get reelected he has to find a solution-the solution is Terminal Island. San Diego has even told the mayor it worked for them with Qualcomm Race Legal Program, but the mayor already knows that caused it worked here first with T. I. They put all these new laws into effect and this months street racing incidents have gone up with deadly results. The laws were ineffective. The Harbor Commission is all about the money, they got billions from China to land fill the area and increase the Harbor to make more land but failed to include a spot for the track, but on the other side of the harbor there is 2 vacant lots that has been sitting there for 9 years+ that could hold a track. Willie has told the mayor he could be up and running in a matter of weeks, it was up to the mayor to give him the OK. So the mayor has assigned someone from his office to work with Willie and to go over the land site. As Willie said to the mayor, there is nothing to go over I am ready to get started. But it is still the mayors call so we wait and keep calling his office and asking when is Terminal Island going to open?

Xmas Reunion, if you have to ask you were not invited....
Went off without a hitch in an undisclosed location in So Cal. The parking lot was full of trailered cars as well as street driven cars. A lot of Mustang vs Lightning's. A couple Honda vs fwd Domestic, that both were actually quick. An 83 Mustang Conv. vs a 71 Nova. A Small Block powered 74 260Z vs a Small Block Ford 68 Mustang. A beautiful, high dollar, Big Block Chevy powered, Tunnel Rammed, Nitrous fed 68 Camaro in an inclosed trailer vs a Big Block Chevy, single nitrous fed 10.5 tire 72 Nova (both claiming not to be that fast, but the parachutes on the back of each car kinda gave it away, leaving you to wonder what their definition of fast was to them) on an open trailer. A trailered, tubbed, single carbed BBC, 468 claimed, nitrous disconnected, parachute packing Chevelle (the nitrous disconnect claim was thoroughly checked on both cars) vs another clean trailered BBC, 427 claimed (nobody believed him, noticing high cubic dollars sitting between the fenders) single carbed, nitrous disconnected 67 Camaro. A high dollar trailered Acura vs a trailered SBC 69 Nova. A street driven Buick GN vs A street driven, SBC LS1, 2000 Camaro. All cars were on slicks, even the street driven ones. A pre arranged 10" car tire Kawisaki vs a no show Hayabusa. The most interesting was a bunch of mini bikes that showed up, never seen them before, but these things were really serious little mini bikes. How serious? Well, one of those mini bikes gave a Ford Taurus (with the Yamaha engine V6 instead of the Ford V6 from the factory) a car length head start and beat him by @ two cars, that mini bike had to have been going over 80 mph, LOL. Winning purses ranged from $50 to $12,000. A couple of cops came and visited the event, but arrived too late to enjoy any of the reunion's festive activities. The cops were persistent, showing up 3 times, even after we moved the event to different locations. On the fourth visit, they snuck in, and were all gathering together to give us a surprise visit. All 20 of them, in 10 squad cars, evenly divided between both sides of the event. We ruined their surprise. One car stayed behind, not by choice, but to load up his trailer and unwittingly became our ambassador of good will and welcomed our uninvited guest. They were nice enough to give him an invitation to give to the rest of us-They wished us a Merry Christmas, and if we came back, they were going to bring more of their coworkers with them on their next visit to the event. They were also going to personally invite all of us to come over to their work establishment for a nice, cold, bagged, turkey sandwich Christmas dinner, compliments of the city DA. Our lucky ambassador, who stayed behind, ended up thanking them very much and wished them a Merry Christmas also and said he would definitely relay the generous invitation bestowed on him. Thus, putting an end to the evening's festivities. I think they were upset for not being invited, and the cat and mouse chase that pursued. A lot of races were interrupted, due to moving the event to different locations. Other than my feet, legs, knees, and my aching back hurting from watching so much belly aching arguments before the line ups were figured out (a lot of which were not able to finish their challenges that day, but will be continued to later date TBA. More than likely it will settled at the HangOvers, so is not to be interrupted.) I got a chance to see a lot of old faces, some of whom I have not seen in over 20 years. I had a really good time...

On a sad note, Ex-Vietnam Vet Street Racer 'Mouse' who was the starter on the movie "Two Lane Black Top", died last month. Details are unknown at this time but he was working for a military installation in the Northwest when it happen. May God Bless his soul.

Hey Terminal Island looks like a go, it's a little soon to tell but we have been in talks with the mayor and the harbor commission here is a sample of what has been said-
Subj: Re: Publicly Thank The Mayor Date: 3/4/2005 7:30:45 PM Pacific Standard Time From: EthelkilledFred To: Mayor Hahn Office L.A. city .org
In a message dated 3/4/2005 2:17:54 PM Pacific Standard Time, Mayor Hahn Office L.A. city .org writes:
Unfortunately the Mayor is unavailable this weekend. I will let you know if we can schedule your proposed event idea at another time. My office will be in touch. Thanks,
Lindsay Watson Director of Scheduling Mayor James K. Hahn 200 N. Spring Street Los Angeles, CA 90012
Thanks for the reply Ms. Watson. We can do it during the week, but less people will show up, unless it is late in the evening, like between 9 PM to Midnight would work, then we can have a good size crowd and we would like to do the meeting on the streets of Los Angeles (San Fernado Valley to be specific) where we race with the cars we race with. The point is we as street racers, want to thank Mayor Hahn for getting the ball rolling in getting Terminal Island's Brotherhood Raceway reopened, and want to publicly express that he is getting street racers off the streets of Los Angeles by giving us a chioce other than the streets. Once again thank you very much.
