I have a 97 s10.I got a good deal on it for $1400. It is a 2wd.My trouble is the brake pad to caliper design. When i hit a bump the pads move around make a noise. The place I bought it from put new pads and rotors on it .We had a long talk about some things I wanted done before buying it.Mostly things that are inspection related anyways. The carpenter that worked there did a lot of things to the truck not the way I would have. I Noticed the pads are verry loose in the calipers. The tabs on the pads were never bent over to grab the caliper tighter. So after sone time I was happy with making them tighter. But they are still loose enough to make noise on bumps. Are the pads just cheap design and do not fit the calipers like OEM? Has anyone ever had this problem?

Absoloutely, it's very possible that the pads are just a cheap make.  In the shop where I work we had a customer who for the sake of a couple of dollars insisted on supplying his brake pads (rotors still ok).  He brought  in a cheap set of "white box" pads and we were faced with the same dilema.  My suggesstion is to toss them out and install a set of good quality pads.  Personally on my 91 Blazer 4x4 I used Wagner  Thermoquiet pads and have been very pleased by their performance.  No rattles and best of alll no metallic brake noise when they get hot.

I worked for NAPA for 6 years .I guess deal with it.I cant see taking new pads off   just because they are not made with close tollerences.I got a kick out of white box .One of our best customers always refered to AUTO VALUE parts as that. They were right next door but He always waited for me to deliver some parts because he did not want the comebacks.NAPA seemed to want to put their quality in their advertisement. We would loose in a price war.Unless someone had ben burned with white box they did not care about the quality.I am talking about the average do it yourselfer.I still ramble part numbers in my sleep.
