have a 1989 chevy cavalier, before I drive it I let it warm up for about 5 minutes. Drives just fine for about 35 miles and then when I come to a stop it dies, if I let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes it will start fine and continue on. However if I dont let it rest for that 3 to 5 minutes, everytime I try to start it, it dies consequtively. It acts almost as if its being flooded. If I put it in neutral it will go ahead and start, however without that short waiting period if I put it into drive it dies again. Is it the kickdown sensor in the tranny and if so, how do I fix that myself?

i had the same problem with a celebrity of the same year and mine was the lock-up solenoid wasn't  unlocking. unplug the four wire plug to the trans. to test if this is it. good luck
