I have a HEI distributor on my '79 383 stroker motor.  the problem with it is that the machanical avance keeps rusting fast resulting in no mechanical advance.  i have torn one distributor apart and completely cleaned it and used anti-seize when i put it back together.  About 8 months later it wouldn't move again.  I replace the distributor with another one and now that one is rusted fast.  The part that the rotor is screwed to will not pivot on the shaft.  I was wandering what could be done to stop the problem. The lack of acceleration is annoying. I am also interested in upgrading to efi and want to know if any of the systems have an eletronically controled distributor with them.  I haven't found any yet.

Thanks

Doyle

Your getting moisture into the distributor, first place to check is the rubber seal that attaches to the top of the firewall to prevent rain and wash water from running down the firewall and dripping on the engine/distributor.
