I had a strip kit in a th350 .The previous owner told me never to go above 5500rpm from 2nd to drive. One vday I went to 6000 and thought i destroyed the trans. So I bought another used one.A few months later I went to drain the converter over a 5 gallon bucket.Something went clunk into the bucket. It was chunks of the splines that drive one of the hubs in the transmissions.I later reused the trans with another used converter in a car and it was back to barking gears.ANYONE EVER HEARD OF SAUCH A THING?

Have never heard of this happening but it sounds to me like you've got some serious clearance issues. How tight was the converter to the flywheel? When the trans is bolted up and tight you should be able to push the converter back about a quarter of an inch before you put the bolts in it. Sounds like yours may have been toooooooooo tight and bound up.
Just my humble opinnion.

I really dont know It was the factory block with the factory transmission and a stock converter.Later I ran into the previous owner ,he said I told you not to go past 5500.Then he told me it hapened to him.But he never told me why not to when I bought the thing. The truck used to turn NAPA super strength U joints Into pencile tips on the ends every six months. It would kinda go sideways when it hit second and when it hit 3rd it was like someone hit the headrest with a post mall.Maybe it was causing the converters to swell up.I ran into this with a ford engine I sold at NAPA when I worked there. The original engine in this ford truck failed through the thrust bearing.I sold the garage a reman with a god warrunty. After six months the new engine made the same noise. The mechanic pulled the pan and the thrust bearing was chewed to hell NEW ENGINE! The mechanic checked with a friend who had acess to ford dealershiop only recalls. There was a recall on torque converters on some years AOD trans. I still did my part of the warrunty for the engine and our remanufactor cleared it.I kept my mouth shut but heard comments from the customer like damm NAPA PARTS> I kept my mouth shut because it would make the mechanic look bad.And that garage spent $100,000 dollars with our store.I was the only one who ever knew about the converter and untill now I foregot about that.BLA BLA BLA .Antway this could have ben my problem
