This is a big swap going back to a 72, nothing of the LS will go easily into the Monte, so you need to come to grips with how big of a project you want to get involved with.

There’s two ways to go. 1) is to convert the 72 into a modern machine and use all the LS1 equipment from the fuel injection and computers thru the emissions which it needs to run correctly. 2) convert the LS 1 to a carb using GMPP intake 88958675, but you still need ignition and transmission control which brings the a computer into the picture. Neither approach is simple or cheap. But the lesser expensive way is probably to bring all the LS1 systems into the Monte from a donor car.

But anyway you go this is a big deal swap in complexity and cost.

Finally! Something I do know something about and can help with.

Thanks to Bogie I've found that Advanced Adapters should have the engine mount adapters to use. It is a plate of steel that utilizes the LS block bolt pattern and has the proper holes also drilled and tapped to accommodate the former engine mounts from your desired car/truck to be installed into, and in some cases also offer set backs of and inch or so. This will help if there are issues of pan clearance. Sorry I'm not as helpful as Bogie when it comes to the part numbers but I can attest to these people being the ones to call.

As for using the computer to make it run, Painless wiring offers a stand alone wiring kit that has already weeded out all the unnecessary wires and connectors. It comes with it's own fuse panel and is GM color coded and has every connector in it's proper place and is of exact fitment, plus has labels at the connector should you not know where it goes or are uncertain. I used a 02 Corvette external fuel pump and has worked great. Sorry for the lack of part numbers again, but they will have what you need.

These above mentioned people have provided great parts and assistance in getting my 62 Cadillac outfitted with it's LS1/4L60E. Once I'd dove head first into the project I was shocked at how much easier it had gone in than I was previously intimidated by. It has been such a great and relatively easy swap, I'm doing this exact swap again, but into my 66 Suburban  this time. Good Luck!- Stan

Using the Painless kit, only the computer is needed, besides obviously the engine and transmission. I can't speak highly enough of how "painless" it actually was. Looking at the jumble of wires when it arrives is a little intimidating. Taking your time and doing it just as the instructions say, doing one circuit at a time. I only called tech support one time, and they were extremely helpful and patient when I did call.

I'm not sure what type of adders your contemplating but I've looked at TNT's nitrous kits and do plan on using Grannatelli's(sp?)  throttle body and intake. I'm admittedly intimidated by messing with these "new-age" engines and will stick to the basic bolt on's.
