ladies and gents i have been mislead again! i found a site that has the casting numbers for heads and the 14014416 heads i have are from a 80-86 305 1.84"/1.5" valves 58cc chambers. off of mortec.com The guy at the speedshop is going to get it! he said they was from a 69 camaro n it was running. The speedshop i went to, to get the heads cleaned told me that i had four bad valves. they were hot tanked for days! and that if i would of put them on as is my motor would have been done! I keep running into Bull shikowski people. so now i have near brand new heads for my 1972 350 4bolt main. so how do u think my motor will be since i have these heads on there now? any help would be greatly appreciated! The 14014416 head is from an early 1980's performance 305, if you can envision such a thing, a 305 with a 4 barrel carb is about what it was. These frequented police engines.
They have a decent port design, but unfortunately are sized from the port lips thru the valves rather, and typically, 305 smallish.
They do provide high compression with the 58 cc chambers when strapped to a 327 or 350, but the ports and valves just aren't up to feeding these larger engines. They can be modified with larger valves and porting, but even so, the ability of these heads to feed a larger engine is right on iffy as you will run out of port wall before they're as big as standard 350 head ports.
Frankly, by the time you put money into rebuilding an old set of heads, you're a long way toward replacing them with GMPP Vortecs or aftermarket look-a-likes. AND these Ricardo chambered variously referred to as heart or kidney shaped chambers, so called "Fast Burn" heads will deliver 30-40 more ponies out of the box than the best ported of the old heads.
