Me and  a freind are having a discussion over wether a Lt1  rotates in reverse. I say its just the water pump ,He says the motor.

He also says that you can't build one up because it can't use an aftermarket intake ,Isay hes wrong, also he say were are you going to put the distribtor because it uses oti spark,I say put in a diff cam.

Who is write?

Reverse cooling. As far as I know, it spins the normal SBC direction. Why can't you swap cams? He's correct, the opti-spark is on the front of the engine, so what.

Engine rotation is driven by the direction the driving wheels and tires need to rotate to move the car forward and what side the ring gear is driven from by the pinion. GM hasn't changed either so the LT1 crankshaft rotates the same direction as their other engines.

Because of the way the water pump is driven between engines with V-belts or serpentine belts, one shall we say serpentine, rotates reverse of the other. Same goes for a pump mounted fan. It has to have its blades pitched for the direction of rotation (V-belt or serpentine).

Old LT1s prior to 92 fall into the above catagory. New LT1s and 4s have a cam driven water pump that is not interchangable with the older Gen I engine.

GMPP provides a 4 barrel intake; 24502592 for LT1 and 24502574 for LT4 heads.

There are kits to terminate and remove the Opti Spark and a conventional distributor can be run with the above manifolds by removing the LT1/4 oil pump drive adapter inside the block so the oil pump is then conventionally driven from the distributor drive.
