Help me build the top end of my 355 i want a good tq/hp numbers close to 400 if possible.  Right now the car has 355 with the 882 castings that have been milled to 64cc so i have about 10:1 compression.  The heads came off my old l48 vette motor.  I need some info on what heads, cam, intake to get to have the numbers i am looking to get near. thanks i am new to building motors so any help is appriciated

Did you "CC" the heads with a buret before assembling them, because removing 11 cc is a bunch of work on the milling machine and I don't know if a smog 882 casting could take that much metal removal.

I can tell you one thing as well, unless the 882 heads have at least some decent port work done to them you more than likely won't be able to get your 400 Hp goal. But nonetheless, look for a good quality dual plane intake (weiand, holley, edelbrock, ect) with a flat tappet hydraulic cam from a well-known manufacturer of somewhere around 215-220@.050 on 112-114 LCA.

If you read me first post i ask what a good head would be i do not want to use teh 882s because i know nothing about what was done to them just what i was told by the guy i traded my motor work for.   I got the bad end of the deal this motor does not have any more power than the l48 hell it even feels slower than my old one.  i know the block has been bored 30 and it is supposed to have 10:1 comp.

get some vortech heads, a comp solid flat tappet cam, I can't remember the part # but it has 248 duration on both sides @.050 and .525 lift on both sides. you'll need to have the pockets enlarged on your heads for larger valve springs.  An edelbrock rpm airgap intake and a 750.   This will get it,  I had a 355 with this exact setup im my monte with a 3000 stall and it ran 12.60 @ 109mph.  Very streetable too.

I forgot the 1.6 rocker arms.

there's my 2 cents

I have no idea how much hp the combo will produce but regarding the above post on the vortec heads and Edelbrock intake Scogin #### has a package (I just bought one) that includes new vortec heads (fully assembled), Performer RPM Air-Gap intake, head gaskets, intake gaskets, head bolts, intake bolts, rocker arms.  You can get the package with the heads already modified for higher lift cam for just around $1000.

Supposed to have 10:1 and actually has 10:1 is two different things. I doubt that it does, but anyway the reccommendations for vortec heads are good ones, and they will be a good place to start to reach your goal. The cam will depend on a lot of variables, and more than likely your intake choice should come down to a edelbrock performer RPM. A 650-750 Holley is also a good place to start.
