I had a quick question regarding an internally balanced 406. We purchase an Eagle 4340 Crank that is internally balanced. I was somewhat confused on the rest of the set up, do you actually run a balancer or plate on the inside of the crank case or do you just a run a normal dampner or balancer on the end of the crank snout?

with an internally balanced crank you run a nuetral balancer & flywheel. in your case of the small block 406 you would run a 350 flywheel & balancer. the stock 400 small block engine is externally balanced & you would have to use the externally balanced offset weighted flywheel & balancer.

Thanks for the info. I was aware that you have to run a 350 flywheel. Will any balancer work or does it have to be a "neutral balancer"? I was assuming just run the 350 flywheel and a ATi or Fluid Dampr balancer.

a 350 balancer is a neutral balancer. neutral means it's equally weighted all the way around. no offset weight to it. but yes you can run any 350 balancer you choose. most fluid balancer tend to be on the heavy side & can be costly. go w/ an SFI approved solid balancer & you should be fine. they come in different weights so try to pick a light one.
