Hi there, I have a 1996 Chevy S-10 Super Sport with the 4.3 pushrod V-6. I have recently been experiencing some idling problems. I have a Hypertech 160 degree powerstat with the power programing. I recently replaced the thermo. with a brand new one cause the one I had was stuck open. I also reinstalled the  power programing. I thought this might take care of the problem, but it didn't. You see, whenever I'm at a stop light or am parked with the heater on, it will automatically rev-up from 1000 to almost 1500 rpm's without warning. My dealer told me that a total reprograming of the chip would take care of it, but since I have the programing, what should I do?? I was also told that I might have either a carck or a worn out gasket on my headers, but it's probably not serious enough to cause any problems. Could this maybe be a contributing factor to my idling problems?? I have a set of Edlebrock headers that are only 2 years old. If anyone can help I would be greateful.

Hey there, bige126, Thanks for responding to my post. I know that my check engine light is not coming on so I will have to check for a vacccum leak. My dealer tried to get me to have my whole chip reprogrammed. They told me that because my thermostat was stuck open it had caused my chip to go haywire and that they would need to upload a new program for it, but when I told them that I had power progamming installed they would not touch it. So if they won't touch it then how will I be able to tell if my chip is acting up or not. I guess my chip is ok 'cause I have been able to drive my truck, but I have to make sure I do not have the heater on or else I experience this problem. I think I will check to see if I have a vaccum leak first and worry about the chip last. Thanks again for the help I will let ya know what I find out.

When I had an idel problem with my 4.3 1990 S10, I replaced the throttle positioning sensor. I had it check and was told it was not bad, but after replacing it, the idel went back to normal.
