Hey Chevy High Performance how about a hopup article on the new EcoTech 2.4 ltr 4cyl like the 205 hp supercharged engine in the new Cobalt SS and soon the Solstice ! Chevy is saying that low 15s to hi 14's are possible with this little DOHC demon, So why not put one of these bad little boys thru it's paces. After all it's a Chevy and we all like to see Chevy's run faster. And lets face it guys these new 4 cylinders are here to stay and gas isn't going to get any cheaper so, Why not crank one of these new Wee Beasties up and make it really cook.

Remember Fast is still Fast no matter how many Cylinders you have.

Yup..Id agree....this is chevy high performance...not chevy v8 high performance.

Although I am quite partial to the torque curves of my v8's..I still like the revability with reliability and economics of my 4 cylinders and as far as I am concerned...the imports are wining the 4 cylinder war...so lets bring it back home and crank out a few hundred ponies from one of those eco-tec deals....hehe

Somthing like...new drive ratios on the blower and a sheet metal intake...sweet..perhaps even a few thousand rpms more than were used to...like 9k...yeah.

Hey I'm glad to see someone else has a passion for small displacement Hi RPM engines. I used to love to hear my Honda CB 900 Custom wind up in the Hi gear range. The S2000 Honda sports car makes all of it's 240 hp above 7000 rpm and it really Kicks.

My roomate used to have a Toyota Matrix SRX that redlined at 8200 rpm. It was definatly a motion sickness mobile. It made 180 hp and 130 ft/lbs somewhere in there. The torque curve did not hit untill 6000 rpm. Saying that the S2000 really kicks above 7000 rpm is all fine and dandy, but the car is dog below that point. The matrix was fun above 6000 and it pulled really hard, but there was really only a span in 1st and 2nd gear of 20-30 mph each where he could actually use the power, then it dropped back down to like 4000 and was completly ball-less. Now if CHP could do an eco-tech build that applied power low in the rpm range and still revved high then i'd be all for it. But if it would be a power band from 6000-9000 rpm's I say no thank you.

True, but the VTEC Honda engine was designed to help with the lack of low-end torque. The S2000's torque curve is definately in the upper RPM range, but the vehicle is very light. However, as I've heard it called, it's "still more of a science project than a car." I'd agree. The engine is advanced but it still has to climb through several thousand RPM to get anywhere. Thank god for manual transmissions.

Yes I know that the S 2000 has a problem with torque but then It's engine is designed to run at sistained Hi Rep for extended peroids of time. I'f the proper gearing was available I'm sure an S 2000 could approach the 200 mph mark in relatively stock trim. Just because an engine is small dosent mean it can't make power, and in most cases DOHC engines always need to rev higher to make more power.

I'm doubting very highly it could do 200 mph. A Corvette (LS7) has a drag coefficient of .28 and weighs 3179 pounds, and has a power to weight ratio of 6.2. An S2000 weighs 2835 lbs, has a power-to-weight ratio of 11.8, and a non-listed drag coefficient. So you're trying to say an S2000 with 11.8 pounds per horsepower is going to hit 2000 MPH with "different gearing," when a Corvette with 6.2 pounds per horsepower tops out at 198?

Afew weeks ago I read an article about a guy with a Honda 600 cc Coupe that went 99mph + on a mildly modified 600 cc two cylinder ! I'm sure it could be done with the right modifactions.

In this months Popular Mechanics there is an article about GM PM and another corp building a Landspeed Record Lakester that set a new Land Speed Record for the 2ltr class with an EcoTech engine Of 189.209 mph! Who says you can't make a 4 banger run! Now CHP lets see you guys do a build up on a Cobalt SS and make it really cook.
