I have a 94 Camaro that I plan on putting a carbed smallblock into but got hung on what caliber engine to stuff in it. I would like to be able to take it to the track and get a mid to low 12 or better but would like to cruise around town every once in a while. I thought of maybe a 355, 377, 383, or even 406 if you can send me in the right direction that would be great.

i'm a big fan of 383's, low 12s is not hard to get with any of the motors you've listed here. with a good set of heads(afr, edelbrock, even vortecs) a 250 duration .550 or so lift cam maybe a squirt of nitrous, and an rpm airgap intake. keep the compression around 10.0:1. a 3000 or so stall. good as gold.

I dont know what motor you have in your 94 now. But I do know that my 95 firebird (lt1) went 13.17 @105 with nothing more than intake exaust, the hypertech powertuner and slicks. We were going to throw a 100 shot at it but it blew a head gasket. As for the carbed motors. If you use a small block with the distributer in the rear behind the carb, you may have clearance issues. I have a friend who did what you are trying to do in a 97 camaro. We found that we had to cut a box out of the firewall and fab a box which allowed more room for the distributer.

as of right now it has a 3.4 V6 and 5 speed tranny. Thinking of 377 or 406 to go back with and would like to keep it a standard , maybe go 6 speed.

Hey, just thought I would offer my input. I recently just purchased a 1993 Camaro Z28. I am planning on pulling out the 350 and dropping in a carb'd 406ci that i have built for the past couple of years. The engine is producing roughly 550 horses and around the same numbers for torque. This should have the car running below 12's maybe just touching upper 10's if the power can get to the ground efficiently. The car has the 6 speed tranny. I have heard it is hard to remove the engine from the top without the use of a special plate that the engine hoist can grab onto. Since the engine sits farther back you run the risk of busting the windshield or the window tray when you go to pull it out unless you are able to rotate the engine a full 90 degrees in the engine compartment. GM apparently built the cars to have the engines installed from the bottom but to do it that way you must have a car lift and remove alot of the front suspension componets. Im not exactly sure if the v6's run into that same problem. I will probably take it to someone who has done these kind of swaps before. The 406 i have built up has Forged eagle crank and h-beam rods and forged speed pro pistons. Dart Iron eagle heads fully ported and polished with pro-magnum 1.6 roller rockers, hydraulic roller cam with 224/230 duration with .532/.544 lift, Edelbrock Perfromer RPM intake and holly 800 double pumper. As for the distributor i am using a MSD Pro Billet small diameter distributor. I havent dropped the engine yet so im not exactly sure how the clearance will work out. Still need to find a set of headers that will fit the block and clear the steering linkage. Any info would be helpful. Good Luck

you can take the motor out of the top, but you have to tear the motor down to the heads. Then you have to pull everything offf the front of the motor(except the balancer). And then it still fights you every inch of the way. sorry i'm just venting. been there done that. moral of the story. Drop the k member it s much easier
