I am looking to build a 454 and put it in my 69 Nova.  Do i need to look for a short block 454 or can I use a standard size block?  I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me.  Thanks.

What's the difference between a short block 454 and a standard size 454?

Terms, terms what do they mean. The 454 is available in a low deck or short deck passenger block or a tall/long deck truck block. This refers to the distance between the crankshaft centerline and the block's head deck.

The term "short block" refers to a minimal bottom end of an engine consisting of the block, crank, rods, pistons, cam and lifters. The term "long block" refers to an almost built engine starting with the short block components and adding the heads, oil pump and perhaps the oil pan and timing case cover.

you can use a short block as you call it because it is the more standard passanger  hi perf block you will find. just remember you need to get the solid mount for the bbc in that car and also the solid top mount. i would also recommend a couple of things#1 solid subframe mounts #2  aluminum radiator # if you plan on using headers you have to get a floor shifter..    if i can help in any other way email me joey     supercam_1999@yahoo.com
