I presume that the 6 speed you’re talking about is the Borg-Warner T-56. This thing comes in several variants from the Dodge Viper to a retrofit (one size fits all) configuration, so explicit direction for you is impossible if the source of the transmission is not known, however, some general assistance is possible.

Life is simpler for you if the T-56 is from a 93 up Camaro as you simply use factory parts. 1984 and up bellhousings use a hydraulic release mechanism, there is no provision for the old-fashion lever actuated mechanical configuration. There are some specific differences in how the bellhousings position the transmission, 83 through 92 Camaro T-5 bellhousings will tip the top of the transmission about 15-20 degrees off vertical toward the driver. The Camaro based T-56 (available from 93 up) requires a modified tail housing to drive your mechanical speedometer, this is available from Stealth Conversions reference these people http://www.jagsthatrun.com/  for details.

The aftermarket T-56 is a slightly different beast; ready to mount to a Camaro 305 or 350 it will be a couple inches longer when installed due to the use of an adapter plate. Note, the OEM Camaro, or the aftermarket, or a modified Viper T-56 whichever you use must be checked for drive shaft length. The retrofit T-56 has provisions to drive a mechanical speedometer. This transmission has a longer input shaft, this along with the adapter plate, require that the installation be made using the 83 thru 92 305 V-8 Camaro bellhousing, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate as used with the T-5 transmission.

“Chevy High Performance” magazine ran an article on modifying the Viper T-56 to fit into a Camaro you should be able find it on line at their web site.
