Basically without getting to deep in an answer, iron heads 9.0-9.5:1 and aluminum heads 10-10.5:1 to be safe.

9.7 @ 72cc iron heads. cranking pressure showed 205lbs weakest cylinder,no problems on pump gas here.

I'm running 10.5:1 on 91 with camel hump iron heads. But it barelly squeeks by on the street. Not good for racing though.

Compression has alot to do with cam timing. I'm running a comp extreme 274 tappet cam in my 383.

You could always have the piston heads and the combustion chambers ceramic coated.
