hello

I think your problem is that you have a crate motor...

and never bothered to "tune it" for the rated power!!!!!

that 355hp engine can be a 190hp slug if the timing curve and carb are not right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my 72 el camino  was a 17 sec. car when I bought it...

it was a big block..

buying nothing but tune up parts./ an advance(timing) curve kit/ and a few carb  jets  ect..

brought this 17 sec car to a 12 sec car...

no gears no n.o.s.  no new cam/heads/   nothing

just a "tune up"

food for thought

I just dont know were to start. I messed with the timing a bit and seen a little inprovement , swaped the Holley 750 vac secondary for a 600 dubble pumper and it did not help at all. I allso took the belt drive fan off and it helped a little ( put on an electric fan). I also put a shift kit turbo 350, and 373 to 1 rear gears and posi in it .It has headers flowmaster mufflers. I ran it in the 1/8 mile two times once with the 750 and once with the 600  now and still runnig 9.014 sec / 9.018 sec /73mph/72 mph what can i do to improve on this ?

Dave you may not have enought fuel .The pump may not have enought volume and or the fuel line may be too small.

Okay in the November issue (this month) Page 124 There is a question H.O dropped.Yhis pretty much is what you are gooing through .He has a ZZ4 in a 84 camaro. It runs a best of 14.30 @97-98 mph in the 1/4. Chp ran a article in 1991 On A zz4 that had all the emission legal parts on it  in a 87 camaro and they had it down to 13.80.They had a lot of problems wth getting enought fuel volume to the engine. They also make a point about a open element air cleaner and hot air gooing into the carb.So I am thinking your MENO should run somewhere around 14.05.I can not translate this to the 1/8 but you may find out you are in the ball park.Read The article page124
