Got beat by  a bone stock gt five speed and that sucks. Heres what I have,1980 Elcamino,zz4 750 vac sec, headers turbo 350,373 r&p what gives it's got more power than the stang .What would be the best way to get more power and speed on a smallish budget ?Any help would be great ,I'm for any ideas.

im guessing traction, you cant get anything to hook without weight on the rear tires. Also one thing you have no idea how much power your car has so why say it has more than the mustang? plus power surely isnt the only thing that wins drag races! or any kinda races for that matter, why do some busch cup cars qualify faster than nextel cup cars with some 100+ less horsepower

I'll bet your problem is more related to traction than more HP.


I'm running an LT-1 powered S-15 and found GT Mustangs pretty easy pick'ns when I got the chassis sorted out. HP shocks, traction bars, anti sway, some chassis F to R s wedge, engine setback, posi, gummy tires, battery in the bed  stuff like that.

Sorry I diden't see this before I posted on on a diff board . But 355 bhp is more than a stock gt ,is this not true??????????? you may be on the money about the rest , I'm looking for advice not wholey-er than u know what barking crap like the last guy,,,,(not you oldbogie) I'm new at this .thanks for the input to  all who helped .Mustang Gt 250ish,Me 355 thats more any way you add it.I would like to know what it wiuld take to beat the GT ,you can look at the specs on the zz4 at gmpartsdepot.com.

I just dont believe it.What year rustang is it? Could it be a 347 A stroked 302 that is? I know this guy who had a 351 w in a 84 stang with a c6 auto trans.It still had stock 273 gears and he could not get it any better then mid 16 in 1/4.I just sold my last toy it was a 79 half ton .It had a 73 olds 350 th400 and some stupid 255 gears or close to that.I could push 60mph in 1st that is tall gears. Anyway it ran 16.50 @83 mph with my stupid reaction time.Oh and i was mid way through second gear at the end.I never ran the mustang but i wish we had. I dont think he would of taken me seriousely.After all he has a 351w in a light car.He has a 92 rustang now and a 347 stroker.He paid 6k for the engine at a local machine shop. It is rated at 400hp 400 ftlbs of torque. The best it ran is 12.99 taking it easy out of the hole.His 5 speed and rear end are not rated at that king of torque.That was a well spent 6 grand not!

No it was a f-ken 2004 now what do you think? Oh just pulled the trans and found out it was a turbo 250,chunked it and got a 350 core to rebuild.

I thought the TH250s are a decent transmission.At least not like the really weak metric 200c.Any way Where is he getting you? Out of the hole, in drive or what. I figure your meno weighs about 3750 and the rustang is like 3200. Another thing to consider is the stang must be a 4.6 .It issint a 32 valve 4.6 is it? Any way the 245 hp you said is net. Yhat means in the car with all the accesories on and measured at the trans output shaft I think.So that would make his gross H.P like 300 with a 16 valve .Another booring story.The kid I know with the 92 stang ran a 71 demon with a 340 .I dont think it is a 6 pak car singel holley.He beat him but all the demon did was spin his tires till third gear. The kid then took the time to show him how to launch the car softer to get some traction. I have not heard about them running agin.

the thing is what do you wont from your car drag the 1/4or drive across town with out having a petrol tanker hocked up to the car.

if you wont a bit of every thing a t700r4 or a 4l60e with a trany  computer

a t350 is a step in the riht direction over a 200 or 250

t350 has a low 1st gear

one of the most inportant thing is the stall of the convter to high of a stall it takes a long time to get of the mark and to low of stall the engine will stall

of corse all this power to move this car is going to the wheels if it can not get to the ground you go  now where fast

as a side not there are cars that are using trimatics here in austraila that are in 10s <in usa a trimatic is used in 4cyl cars becasue it take less hp to run>

Well the thing that gets me is that I have a 3180 pound car with GM's quoat of 355 hp zz4  and a ford that is lighter and has less hp and beats Me.

I understand how you feel.At least it is not a coffe can and a tail wing beating you.Honestelly  I think yor meno should be 1.5 seconds faster in the quarter mile. I think you have 20 more horsepower hidden somewhere. Do you get a dyno sheet with zz4s? What does chevy run on em to get their power figures? Headers, carb ,distrubitor.I had a set of hooker competion headers on my 83 malibu. I feel that the equal tube length and the long collector area really helped. Had some otther sets unequal length and short 3" collectors  I might have ben better off with manifolds. Only thing I did not like was having the front tires like 2and a half feet  off the ground to put the headers allmost at a 90degree angel with the ground to put em in.The car was a police package ,it had a tall ride height and rode like a 1 ton truck.But it held the road with no sway on turns.I would like to find another one.

I took the car to the track and ran it just to see what it would do,,,,,and guess what my times were I ran three times.

All i have ever known is 1/4 mile.I live in N.Y and the only time they run 1/8 is when they move the lights back.There is a lot of imfo in a timeslip. If you have a good top speed and poor 60 and 100 foot times it may be traction. Not to slam it but is the rest of your meno stock.I mean the rear suspension? In the 1/4 I would figure a 14.? time would be a good starting point for your first time.I have not run that much so I redlight or sleep on the starting line.Plus when I run It is just trials so i get half track and here comes that 600 h.p rail car by me.I hate not hearing my engine when there are open headers next to me.Got a wife and kids and gave it up. Besides there issint anything I cant do on the streets.Had a old 1/2 ton truck with way too tall gears that ran a 16.5 at 83. Nothing to brag about but I only had 1000 dollars into the whole thing and it got 20 miles to a gallon.The mustang would go by me at idle.Had a friend with a 84 mustang gt350 . It was a stroker 347 I dont think it had any more then 320 h.p (stock ported heads) it took him for ever to hit 13.00.Plus he went through like 10 transmissions.Some even race prepped not just shift kits.He did not have money for food but there was always parts on order from jeggs or summit. He lost his house lost his wife and the car is sitting in the weeds he calls it the rustang now.
