Hi my name is Greg, I am 19yrs old and I own a 1991 camaro RS with a 305 and I recently started drag racing. I have been running low 15's with it completly stock, but i can't get hook up and it has a little hesitation right off the line. It's a 5 speed on the floor. I am in the process of building a 383 stroker to drop in it but I still haven't decided what rear end (gear ratio) to shove up their, or what transmission to switch to. If you have any ideas I would like to hear them.

Whose 5 speed? A factory Tremac will not put up with a 383 on one end and a Camaro on the other. For a manual tranny, you'll need to think T56.

The rear end will need a change out probbaly to a 8.8 inch 12 bolt, but a 10 bolt 8.5 will probably do for a while.

Lack of hook up and a bog off the line aren't the same thing. The lack of hook up shows you can run a softer compound tire, perhaps a wider tread as well. The bog is either or both timing and fuel mixture issues. This is a computer controlled car and solving either these problems requires a chip reprogramming. Since most performance changes require "cut and try" as the operative methodology this gets expensive fast.

The selection of rear gears will be driven by the engine build up, or the engine build up can depend upon the selected rear gears. More cam = more gear ratio and conversly.

Changes for the drag strip will not improve emissions, so if this thing is to also be street legal, there are some limits as to how far you can go in getting crazy.
