I never write mags, but after reading your article about your "New Mule", I got to thinkin' about what you were describing, and it sounded alot like what I'm driving.
V-8 chevy-powered, rear-wheel drive, truck. Hefty suspension, closer to the ground... capable of haulin' rocks.... and it's a looker too. (even the right color!) It's about as close to that "honest-to-God Chevrolet-built sedan" as you're gonna get new.
I'm driving (daily) an SSR.
O.K. ....before you totally blow me off.... I "booked" your Silverado and....with the plans you have for your build-up.... you might as well buy an SSR. Your basic truck is valued at about $25K and what you're proposing could easily run your another $5-10K. You can get a new SSR for around $45K and there are 2004's still available for around $35K....
So it's not as much fun...and you don't get your hands dirty, but you'll spend more time driving your vehicle, instead of building it.
Regarding haulin' rocks......so you put the rocks in boxes, it'll take the weight...I checked..... and you make a few more trips (it's only a 4-foot bed)...but, damn, it's a great truck to drive!
