Does the T-56 have the same number of slines on the input shaft regardless of the car its in? I'm looking for a T-56 but i'm thinking that I can use a mustang T-56 instead, and just change the belllhousing, but the input shaft has 10 on the mustang one. Is there anything wrong with this? As long as I get the different bellhousing for my LT-1, shouldn't borg warner have kept the rest the same and the bellhousing bolt on? I do think the location of the shifter is moved closer to the bellhousing than the LT-1 t56, but that is not a concern as far as moving some things like that around.
Thank you
Gavin

I have looked into the same thing.... I believe the bolts to the bellhousing are the same but Im not sure about the crossmember mounts..ya think they would be though. Either way I know that lakewood makes a bellhousing/scattershield that will accept the tranny and bolt to an SBC. As far as splines go all you have to do is use a different clutch. The problem can come with the part of the input shaft that rides on the pilot bearing. I believe it is longer on the ford t56. You may have to do some trimming. Also look into throwout bearings too..Im not sure what the spline diameter is on the ford. It may be bigger. I know they are massive for the autos compared to a GM. Again Ive never actually done this one but Ive looked into swapping a t56 from a mustang to another car. I ended up not doing it for finacial reasons. This probably doesnt help but I thought that id give it a shot. I'll look into my records and see If I can find somthing else out. -Shred PS: The Gm spline is 26 and the ford is a 10 spline...the throwout bearings ARE different. Might have a fun time working out how to hook up the hydraulics....Id go with fabricated manual linkage.
