I have a project, to add as much horsepower in a 2bbl 305 1978 caprice and save as much gas as possible. so far I done this to my car:
transmission shift kit (kicks ass in the freeway) -edelbrock performer air intake (egr) -dual exhaust -heddman hedders -catco high flow catalitic converters + flowmasters. and K&N extreme air kit (4bblcarb and camshaft later)
How can i find out how much HP have I gained ?
I know I gained alot cus I can feel it but I need numbers. thanx

Do you really NEED to know your HP? If you do you can look for the nearest chassis dyno shop and they can hook you up. Opening up the breathing like you did usually adds 20 to maybe 40 HP depending on your engine age and condition. When you change cams go with a dual pattern design with more lift on the EX side. The overlap helps fill the smaller cylinder. Also 305's like tighter lobe centerline angles 108, 110 degrees. COMP CAMS has some of this style of cams in their custom grinds section of the catalog. You may loose a little bottom end though and a stall converter or lower gears should be considered. If your wanting the jackrabbit start.
Did you know they ran some Caprice's in NASCAR I think from 77-79? I would love to build a street legal copy of a NASCAR Caprice! Maybe CHP could do an article on the last NASCAR Caprice/Impala race cars complete with lots of old photos! How about it guys?

It would seem logical that if you have an Edlebrock Air Intake then you ought to check out their cams. I'm not saying that comp cams aren't good enough, but if you have had good sucess with your Air Intake from Edlebrock, then it would only make sense to have every part working nsync with each other, and Edlebrock makes parts that go nsync! It's just a suggestion. I also recommend a Helix throttlebody spacer, I just purchased one. I have not had the time to get it installed, but I was told it will increase my horsepower by 8. I have a '96 S-10 Super Sport with the 4.3 Vortech. I estimate that with this same spacer on your 305, it should increase it by at least 10-15. I also recomend a set of March performance pullys. They will help you achieve up to 15 extra horses.
Did you also know that by swithching to synthetic motor oil like Royal Purple(www.royalpurple.com), can help keep your engine clean and running like BRAND NEW!!! I just started using Royal Purple two days ago and I'm already noticing significantly smoother ecceleration. I also must make another testament about this oil! I have a Hypertech 160 degree powerstat thermostat with powerprograming, but for some unknown reason my engine has never quite been able to run at 160 degrees while driving, but once I switched to Royal Purple I can finally say that my engine is now able to run at normal opperating temperatures. And because of this oil, it has been proven to increase horsepower in vehicles by as much as ten!!! I have not yet been able to experience the full power benefits of the oil, but I will continue to monitor it and I will let you know!!!! I recommend this oil to you especially since you only have to change it every 6,000-12000 miles!!!! I also have been using K&N Oil filters for the last 2 Years and I must say that by trapping dirt as small as 2 Microns, they are the best oil filters yet!!!! I won't switch to any other oil or oil fiter now that I have the best!!!! Hope this stuff helps you and I hope that you will give Royal Purple a shot! I am loving this oil!!!!
