I am building a 383 stroker but I am having trouble choosing between a 350 trans or a 700r4. which would work better and what torque converter should i use. This is for a 1983 Camaro. |

Well, depends on what you wanna do. The 700R4 has a 3.06 first gear, the 350 has 2.52. Don't forget, the 700R4 has overdrive, so if you want to retain some sort of fuel economy, go with the 700R4, especially if you want to lock the converter. However, "The main weak spot in all 700-R4s—even those built after 1988—has always been the factory Third-to-Fourth clutch pack. The factory pack contains only six clutch discs" http://chevyhiperformance.com/techarticles/46278/ However, the 350 is a sturdy and solid transmition used in millions of GM vehicles, just like its bigger brother the TH400. I'm partial to the 700R4 because of the deeper first gear and overdrive, but the TH350 is also a great transmition. However, I'm sure there are plenty of guys around here who would love to give you their opinion too.

I would go with the 700r4. The low first gear is always nice but if your building a 383 stroker it may not be needed. It all depends on what you want to do with the car. I'd go with the 700r4 though.
