I have an early 350 that I just rebuilt and have changed it over to a HEI unit, the HEI  was out of a parts vehicle.  Well to make a long story short as the say , I have no spark.  I've changed the cap/ rotor/ coil/plugs/ wires/ and module so far and still no spark.  Anyone got a educated suggestion, I'm running out of money<G>

Thanks,

Barry

To many variables, with out being there to see the HEI dist up close.  Did you check the control module?  There is a procedure for checking HEI in most aftermarket manules i.e. Chilton, Hyains Etc.  also Jeg's on line has some drop in new HEI's for around 100.00. If you got 12vdc to the batt term, and the reluctor is spaced right, and the module is good along with the coil and your in time there should by all accounts be secondary spark at the plugs 40kv.

Cleaned all the connections and got spark , a little fooling around and it fired.  Ran it @ 2000 rpm for twenty minutes , then shut it down .  Tried a little later and wouldn't start.  Oh well it's close to being done. Thanks,

Barry

HEI uses 12 volts, conventional points go through a resistor or resistive wire that drops the voltage to about 8 or 9, sometimes as low as 6. This just isn't enough for an HEI.

You need to get the vehicle's schematic and locate the wire or wires that run to the hot side of the coil. Then you'll run into a couple choices, some set ups supply 12 volts to the coil during cranking and then switch to a lowered value for running. If that's the case you can disconnect the resistor "run" wire at the switch and just jump the start and run ignition terminals together. If your system is resisted all the time then you need to remove the wire from the start switch and rewire from there to the HEI with a plain piece of wire of about 12/14 gauge.
