Okay it's one hell of a change to have done using a ton of modifications. I put an Oldsmobile 307 with a four speed automatic (electronic shift) from a 87 model car into mr 69 chevy half ton truck. Took some serious engineering to install. My problem now is the shifting of the transmission. It winds out really hard before shifting, especially on slower in town take offs, and I am trying to find out if there is a way to do something about the way it shifts gears, or if i am going to have to change transmissions. If i have to change transmissions is there a transmission the same length as the one I have so that I don't have to figure out drive shaft changes again? I sure appreciate any help I can get.

get a shop manual for the 87 old's and ajt. the tranny's "T.V. cable"
this works like a vacum modulator.. it controls line pressure to everything ..
if not hooked up or ajt. right the tranny will cook itself......
ajt this and you should be good to go... ---
###### don't drive it till you do (check this)############

I can't really add much to what bowtie6872 said.I agree with the cause of your problem, but I recently put a olds 350 in a 67 chevy truck.Among other things I noticed was the olds engine seemed to have more low end torque than a comperable chevy 350.You also didn't say what rear end the 69 had in it.The one I built had the original rear end that was for the six-banger and three on the tree.It will contribute to the low first gear also. But the good news is you put that tranny in for a reason and being able to adjust it to shift like you more or less want will make you like it even better.By the way, what did you use for motor mounts?

I think there is a T.V cable problem ( kickdown cable) .He needs to try and take some tension off it.If this helps u need to set it the propper way with a preasure gauge the way it is described in the service manual. As long as it is not sliping into gear u r ok.Someone may have changed the govener spring or at one tome I found the spedometer gear retanier stuck in the govener. But that one would not upshift at all. There is a common accumelator spring I have found broken in many G.M trannys but never drove em I just put shift kits in em for friends. Most kits u do away with the spring if I remeber right.
