I'm looking into swapping rear ends on my 1980 el camino does any body know if a 12 bolt will fit ,and what year?

A friend of mine had an 85 Monte Carlo with a 12 bolt in it, so it's possible.  It wasn't an aftermarket job either, it was out of something... but I don't know what, or if it had to be narrowed ... and I'd assume the spring perches and trailing arm mounts would have to be moved...

Thank ,but what I really need to know is there a better rear end that I could get from junk yard and bolt in? I  just bought adjustable upper and lower controle arms for my 10 bolt

A direct bolt in ... If you can find one, a Grand National used a 8.5" ten bolt posi.  When built like you would build a 12 bolt (girdle, c-clip eliminators... bigger axles, etc) they are darn near as good/strong as the 12 bolt.  I believe the pinion diameter is the same.
