Looking for Starter knowledge...What I think I know so far... Earlier (pre 90's) Chevrolet (and GM) Delco Remy starters used a starter called the Delco Remy 10 MT which I believe came as an LT (low torque) and HT (high torque) the case difference was the rear was narrower for LT and had a short, one flat wire connection to solenoid whereas the HT had a long connection (hollow copper stud) from solenoid and was a 2 wire into the case (windings). The snout differed by flywheel application being the 153 tooth had the short bolt long bolt version and the 168 tooth had two long bolts. Other than that looks like the starters all all virually the same. Anyone care to add to that for a reference? I am all ears. Would love to hear starter issues and fixes as I have a few of my own to share if wanted.

I think i am having a problem with my starter on my 98 silverado k1500 z71...im not all great with ignitions systems. But my problem is that wen i turn the key to start my truck...it just clicks..then i do it the second time and it will fire easy...i know my alternator probably needs replaced because it is not charging my battery completely...but the worst time i have with starting the truck is when i have just taken the battery charger off the battery. This is really starting to kill me because every time i kill it i dont know if it will start again and i travel far from home to the race tracks on many occasions.
Please help me!

A little late getting back to this thread but since no one else has replied...Sounds like weak battery or weak voltage to solenoid. Check the battery cables as they may look good on the outside but can be corroded on the inside. Next can check the solenoid. The click sounds like it is engaging with the flywheel but possible the internal battery contact (inside the cap) is burned and poor contact. East to take starter off and take to NAPA store or CSK (Shucks, Kragen, etc) store and they have starter checking machine and can do a run up test on the starter for FREE!

im a little late gettin back to you...but i took the starter to my local oriellys and it was bad...i bolted on a new one and found that i had a bad cable and a bad connection to the battery. replaced them both and now my truck runs likea dream...and with the fresh Q torque power it really stands out in the mud.
