I purchased a 87 IROC with a 350 eng. It has a very radical cam and solid lift. The guy I bought the car from had the spec sheet for the cam that showed the particular pattern for adjusting the valves. I did not get the spec sheet. Is there a different pattern for different types of cams? Is there a pattern that is good on all cams? Any assistance is appreciated.

i have always heard eo-ic. Exhaust open-intake closed. Basically it is when the exhaust vavle is opening, the intake is on its base circle, and you then adjust the intake. Then when the intake goes all the way up and is about 2/3 of the way down, i believe, then the exhaust is on the base circle, and you adjust it. You can go right down the right bank and then the left so as to minimize confustion as to which valves have been lashed and which have not. But take a gander at chp's article on setting valve lash to make sure that i dont accidentally lead you astray.

Go to www.compcams.com, they have an awesome section on any cam question you could probably think of including setting valves. The most important thing you need to know is the lash setting for each side(exhaust and intake). No the pattern is not different for different cams only the adjustment procedures. You set Hyd. lifter cams different than solid lifter cams. Good luick!!
