I am the proud new owner of a 1990 Corvette. With this purchase, I am in need of some help with the compatibility of the TPI system, the L98 heads and intake system, and upgrading to Vortec or AFR heads. I would like to surpass the 300 horsepower rating with this engine, and retain a comfortable streetability. I would appreciate any advice offered on this procedure.

Vortec heads would require an new lower manifold from scoggin ####.  It's about 300 bucks.  Your compression would drop a little with the 64cc heads as opposed to 58 cc vette l98 heads but the large gain in flow over the entire lift range would probably still add 20+ hp.  The L98 cam would probably work fine with the vortecs stock spring set up, but if you plan to upgrade to a larger cam I would get the already prepped for larger cam vortect heads.  They sell for around 600 to 700 bucks a pair at sallee cheverolet and others.  The bone stock ones go for around 500.

The price of the heads and manifold add up though and get within a couple hundred of the AFR heads.  And the AFRs outperform the vortecs at low lift and way out perform them at high lift.  And they fit stock production type chevy manifolds.

I personally am going with vortecs because i am running a carb and was able to get a manifold for a 100 bucks.  And for me a few hundred bucks matters.  If it didn't I would go with the AFRs.
