A 302 SBF into an 80 Monza. So simple you'd think they were made for each other.

We'll it was to make up for all those Fords I built with Chevy power, including a Chevy powered Cobra replica. Oh yeah a Dodge 440 max wedge into a 49 Chrysler woody wagon. Thats kind of in the family though. Don't forget throwing Chev V8s into the back seat of a Corvair, now that's life on the edge.
The SBF into the Monza came out of having seen and worked on my brother's SBC Monza and having done a few SBC Vega swaps, you can't help but realize that it's a pretty big motor for such a small chassis. So anyway I found myself with a 80 Monza containing a blown up Iron Duke and a fresh Ford 302, a couple 6 packs, and a rainy Saturday. It was build something or watch TV. Hummmm, wonder what it take to mate them? Well actually not a lot, an adapter plate from Ford bellhousing to Saginaw 4 speed and a modifed pilot bearing, over the counter parts. Ford flywheel and pressure plate, a Chevy disk between. A little whack'in and welding on the clutch linkage. Fab up some engine mount adapter plates. Slice up a set of SBC Hedmans for SBC to Vega and reposition the upper tubes to fit a SBF header plate and weld. A V6 Buick radiator and cut up some hose. Slice the power steering hoses apart and modify with Ford fittings on the pump end. Hook up the Delco alternator and battery and stand back. Oh I almost for got the big pain, reversing the oil pan, that was probably the nastiest part of the swap. Cut, fit, pull it out, cut and fit again do that till you've sliced your fingers and hands into ground meat and then run the welder over a finger or two for good measure.
Run what you brung. Actually it's a neat swap, the Ford's a little long, but you can refine that by getting the short water pump drive from Ford Industrial Products. You can see and touch the spark plugs. The engine weighs about 70-80 pounds less than the SBC which helps the front end out. With an aluminum intake and heads you can get another 45-50 pounds off the front. This in many ways proved to be the prototype for when I stuffed a 302 Ford into a Alfa Romeo Spider, that made a man's car out that piece of .
Just passin' thru and havin' a little fun on the way.
302 SBC Camaro, a much better car, anybody who drove that and a Mustang knows. Not to mention it was pretty well proved on the race tracks of America way back when.

I must be going nuts, I didn't think it was much more effort than putting a Buick V6 or 8 or a Chevy small block into a Monza. The real only pain in the butt was the pan. That can be handled by getting an old Bronco pan from the 1960s-70s. This puts the sump to the rear and includes an extended pick-up tube. It has a little bubble up front to accommodate the oil pump.

I'm trying to put a chevy 305 into a 1974 Mustang II, Then I'm going to put a 383 in place of the 302. I got the engine already. just looking for more info. SBCs are the best engine you can get for the money.
