I am looking at buying a formula firebird with the 6.6 400 and a th 400 trany the interior is almost perfect no cracks in dash or tears in seats the paint is faded and probly could use a paint job the car is all original and runs good but he is asking 3000 for it. I dont know if this is a good deal or not i plan on putting a 383 stroker in it i built but will keep the stock 400 to put in if i did go to sell

Is a original firebird 400 worth 3000 or should i look elsewhere?

That's a pretty good deal, I'd buy it. You don't say what year Firebird it is though.

As for the motor swap, don't do the 383, stick with the Poncho 400. You can get a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads that'll wake the motor up (and lighten it), and it'll make your Firebird a much better car, and you'll get good nods form everyone for stick with the Pontiac motor, which is a good one anyway.
