i am building up a hot rod chevy for my mud truck.

its a 80-85 engine that had V-belts.

I got a partial serpintine system for it ,it did not come with the crank pully or water pump or water pump pully.

it is a older truck serpintine set up from a truck with no air conditioning. and it has the skinnyer belt size.
it is the big single steel horse shoe shaped set up, not the multi piece cast aluminum one like newer trucks have.

my question is about the water pump.I was given a new cool looking chrome long nose water pump, but i dont know if i will be able to use it. i removed the impellor cover off the back to inspect it and it is directional.

I am wanting to know how to tell by looking at it what pump i have .

i have also scrounged up over the last few weeks a fat belt style crank pully, power steering pump pully, belt tentioner, and a fat smooth water pump pully.
all of this crap came of the style system that is multi piece and cast aluminum.

I am hoping to use all of this fat belt stuff on my old style steel non AC bracket system.can i?

i am wondering what rotation pump i need and how to tell if i can use my cool looking chrome one?

i like the non AC bracket because all of this junk is going in my SAS POS isuzu trooper on steiroids.

if you are looking at the back of the pump and got a flat with edge sticking up on left it is a reverse flow pump.witch is used on serpentine systems if it has a flat with edge sticking up on the right side it rotates clockwise witch is used with v belts. your ps pump on both systems turn the same way.

note be sure to use locktite on the bolt that hold the horse collier on they like to vibrate loose and break off too.

a easy way is if you looking at the front of the engine at the water pump if the water outlet is on the right it is for a v belt or rotates clockwise, if the outlet is on the left side it's for serpentine or counter clockwise rotation.

Every water pump I have seen for V-belts has the inlet on the left, viewed from the front. Like you said, it has a RH rotation viewed from the same.
