Go to my post's and look on page 7. (New 454 engine build). I have built one similar to what you describe. I did have intake valve to piston clearance issues and the intake manifold had to be cut, and a whole lot of other modifications. Any questions you have, feel free to ask. The newer heads 14097088 will work on the older big block chevys, There are head gaskets made just for this install.  

nothing wrong with that cam....even with close to 10-1 compression,it'll work all right on pump gas.  

i actually got a new cam i went to a 680 solid roller. and with the big valves in the 049 heads the chambers are actually down towards 116 cc so that makes my compression about 10.3 or soo  

There can't be any metal left for the deck of those heads at a 116cc chamber.

How exactly did you get the chamber that small?  

from what i was tole by my head guy that because of the big size of the valves in the chamber as in they displace enough room to actually make the chamber 116... but they were milled too 118  

Larger valves make the combustion chamber larger.

If you took a burette to your heads they wouldn't be a 116cc most likely.

That is not true. A 468 at around 550 horsepower is going to benefit most from a oval port head.  

Still being rect. port they will still outflow the 049's You can make 500hp with a set of ported 049's though  

Of course a port 30 some odd cc's larger with the same valve, on the same centerlines, and of the same length will flow more - It doesn't mean it will make more power!
