I have a 1984 k10 Chevy pickup with original 305 V8. I recently purchased an HEI upgrade kit from Summit, which inclded new dust shield, cap, rotor, e-clips, counter weights/springs, adjustable vacuum, and new 4-pin module. I did not know what was meant by a 4-pin module until I disassembled my original distributor and saw that a 5-pin module was hiding in there.
I tried EVERY option I could think of to make the upgrade kit work. But I was unable to make the 4-pin work in place of the 5-pin. I even tried leaving the existing module, but include the rest of the new pieces; however, this still will not work because then the new pieces that connect to both sides of the module will not properly connect. From research, the 4-pin module does not have the "knock sensor" that the 5-pin module does (and hence is one pin less).
Is it possible to convert an original 5-pin module to a 4-pin module without sacrificing / jeopardizing engine performance. Whould I have to change out the pigtails that the 5-pin module plugs into? How is this done? Where can I get these pieces?
Also, there are a few reputable online shops that offer a complete distibutor (from the helix gear at the bottom to the dust shield on top), however these all contain the 4-pin modules inside. I would like to get one of these new 65k volt complete distributors, so I need help finding a way to convert the original 5-pin setup to a new 4-pin setup.
Thanks, Tony.

Did you call Summit to see if they had a kit for a 5-pin module?
