I replaced my worn out stock 350 with a 330 HP 350 from Scoggins Dickey. The engine is attached to a stock 700R4 in a short wheel base 85 GMC pick up. I am running a posi traction 373 gear. IT has stock exhaust manifolds with 2 1/4" dual exhaust and no catalytic converters.

The engine is as received from SD with Aluminum intake, distributor, etc but, we replaced the Holley 600CFM with a Edlebrock 600 CFM.

The engine seems to wind good to 5000 RPM but seems slow out of the hole. With 330 HP, stock tires and a 373 gear, it will not even spin the tires.

Any ideas why this engine seems low on power at low RPM's? I was out run by a Honda Mini Van and with what I paid for the engine this is disgusting.

Thanks,

Headers will probably be worth at least 35 horsepower in this scenario. Since there were attempts to extract more power out of this combo than stock the engine is trying to dump more exhaust into a system that would have already been backed up if the output were near stock - so you can see the losses are significant...

Yes, it is disgusting to get smoked by a soccer-mom mobile. Almost as bad as getting smoked by a Ford. The cam in that engine 212-222@.050 should be more than adequate to launch that truck with great vigor. Have you checked your total ign. timing as well as base timing? Should be at least 10deg. base and up to 50-plus with HEI, and vaccum hooked up. As was said before headers are a must for best power. My modified 454 in my truck runs best at 15deg. base timing. Definite difference with anything less. With that much base timing, you may have to limit your total timing, to avoid detonation. Good Luck JW454.
