Here's the story 1970 monte carlo with 350/350turbo I've been upgrading over the years with headers, dual exhaust, hyfire ignition box, 40K coil, pertronix points conversion, new performer 600 carb and edelbrock EPS intake, flexifan, moderate comp cam upgrade(2k-5500 range..don't have exact details with me), new torque converter 2500stall i think, tranny has shift kit, rear end is still open 2.70 gears
So ever since I put that carb and intake on and replaced 2 barrel original..I haven't been able to get it to NOT stumble from idle. I press on gas from a stop and it falls on it's face..if I make it PAST that point, it runs strong. I used the chart at the back of the edelbrock manual to go 1 and 2 steps lean and that didn't seem to fix it so then I went 1 and 2 steps rich. I've messed with the accel pump at each position also.
I can't STAND this issue and I can't live with it anymore.
SOME EXPERT on tuning edelbrocks PLEASE HELP

Drill a 1/8" hole in each front section (towards the front of the carb)of the throttle blades.Had same problem with my AVS 800 and about the same amount of duration and 2500 stall.You'll also have more idle mixture adjustment.Your idle will need to be dropped a little,now your idle transfer slots aren't as exposed. WIEDER

what is the reason for this? what is the problem with the carb stock?
I also should mention that i took a vacuum gauge and set up the mixture screws perfectly.
timing is 6 or 8 degrees advanced..don't remember

I don't like typing alot,look up some articles on carb tuning and some will have info on this procedure.Holley has some models with holes in the blades and can open the secondary blades and get more air in at idle also.If you had a stock short duration cam then your stock carb would work well. WIEDER

Do you think I'm a *** I don't know if you're being nice or a *** been messing around with carbs for awhile just like other rodders and this issue you have is what my truck suffered from.I wish somebody else would respond to this problem you have. WIEDER

way to read into things
i need all and any information to help me solve this problem.. I'm looking into the hole drilling idea, if i can find the information on this site.
i'm willing to do it if it will stop my stumbles

We all benefit from others delimmas and or experiences. I believe the throttle plate holes are the way to go but don't know what your cam specs are or how set up. My experience is that when you deviate from factory then additional upgrades or changes are necessary. There is a holley (HP Books?) manual out here that has detailed information.
Let us know if that worked (last post 6/12) this may help others later.

Holley did the deal with the .085 holes in the primary throttle plates. The reason was, on a Holley, both the primary and secondary throttle plates controlled the idle speed. If the secondary idle adj. was too slow, it was over compensated for on the easier primary adj. This led to the primary throttle plates being moved to far from the idle transfer slots( the closer the butterflies to the idle slots, the smoother the progression phase of throttle opening is going to be.) The holes allowed the butterflies to flow air but be almost all the way closed. Edelbrock has a similar design in this resect. So the question is, how far do you have the idle adj.? Does it pop through the carb, when it stumles? The other strong possibility (and more likely) even though you already messed with it, is pump shot rate. I believe there are three holes to choose from. The hole closest to the carb body is the richest. Also make shure you have enough initial timimg advance. Start off with 15deg. Increased air volume through a given engine, calls for more initial advance. JW.
