How did you put in aftermarket gears without knowing the diameter of the ring gear?

i know the diameter. it is a 7.5. what i was told a 7.5 inch rearend wont hold up and i'll end up busting the rearend if the car is hooking on the track. so what im saying is building up a stock rearend worth the investment?
