327 crank problem

I am building a 327 and have run into a problem. I think.

I am replacing a 305 in a 84 t/a and the 305 had a single long bolt which held the balancer onto the crankshaft. The 327 crank has no provision for this. There are no threads or even room for threads. This motor being internally balanced has no balancer, but does have a plate which is keyed to the crank. The pulley bolts to this plate. My concern is about what holds this plate into the crank. The key will keep it from spinning, but what will keep it from shaking off the front of the motor?

Thanks!

You must be lucky enough to have a press-fit version of the early 327...

Which is probably not the best idea for a high-revving engine.

I suppose if you're confident in it, you could trust it and assemble it with the factory press-fit style balancer/pulley...

Otherwise I'm sure it could be drilled and tapped.

working on cranks suck. i had to mill the snout of a bbc crank. hardend billet 4340 is realllly hard. took me about an hour with a carbide endmill. so tapping it might be a tough one. if the tap dosent break. I'd keep an eye on the balancer from time to time.

4340 steel is a lot different than the 1050 or so carbon steel in GM steel cranks.
