I have a new rebuilt 350 short block and when I primed the oil system I cannot get oil to the rockers. It has new everything inside. Could it be the oil pressure release valve????

What did you use to prime it? If memory serves, the machined rings on the distributor housing play a role in getting oil to the lifters. Without the distributor there will be a pressure loss. Primers usually have some type of collar to substitute.

I used an OTC Tool that is specifically designed for engine priming. When I primed the engine I did not get oil to the lifters but the fellow that I got the tool from told me that the bushing was loose and might not get oil to the lifters. WHen I was priming the engine I could feel the drag once the oil pump was filled with oil and working and when I removed the tool it had oil up to the bushing. I put a new MSD Dist in also so the clearence should be good. Any other thoughts????

Did you assemble the engine?? Is the oil not going up the push rods?? Cam bearing misalignment, too much molylube on the lifters can both cause no oil to reach the lifters. If its a crate motor it has already been primed and rockers preset.

I had a machine shop do all of the assembly I received it as a short block. When I got it home I put the pan & timing cover and heads on. The owner of the machine shop came and installed the roller rockers and adjusted them individually. I later installed the intake, filled the crankcase by pouring it all over the rocker assy's, and then tried to prime the system. I could feel the drag on my big drill motor when the pump was primed and working but no oil to the rockers. The machine shop said that the tool was loose and migjht not get oil to the rockers (crank it over with coil wire off just to let the oil get to the rockers) then attach wire and you should be ok. It fired up and the bottom is quiet but the lifters are noisey and nop oil pressure. This is not a crete motor.

Hey.. did this ever get resolved? im having the SAME problem...  rebuilt motor fro ma machine shop... great gauge oil pressure at front and rear ports, but lifters clammer something fierce and VERY LITTLE oil coming from the poushrods even when its running...  when its started dead cold the lifters may be quieter for the first 5-10 minutes it runs but then will clammer like crazy... have adjusted and re-adjusted pre-load.. tried 1/4 turn, 1/2 turn, and 3/4 turn..  did a hot lash..  still same thing..  with motor on a stand rotating the engine using the starter and running oil pump with a drill I have oil spray out of the first lifter on one side but barely anything anywhere else..  using a TRUE prime tool that HAS the REAL distributor collar on it. the block is a 1968 327 block refitted and bored to be a 355. I cant seem to find anyone with info on this problem..  it almost acts as if the lifters sitting in their bores may be blocking the oil gallery holes??? was there something different on earlier blocks that newer lifters dont like?

The alignment rings on the priming tool or the distributor have nothing to do with oil pressure.
