Hey everyone,
I need to know if it's possible to run the stock in-tank fuel pump with a aftermarket regulator supplying a carb ?
Can it be done without problems ?
I'm having fuel pickup problems with my 97 502 crate (carb) and heard I could go back to the tank pump instead of the frame mounted Holley pump.
The fuel pick-up is on the bottom of the tank but I run out of fuel with about 10 gals. left in the tank.
Thanks for any insight !

First thing that would help solve this problem, what kind of vehicle are you talking about?

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel line? Do you have a fuel regulator? Was the original engine a fuel injected? Where does the return line go to? Plugged or back to fuel tank. You have to describe setup more.

Looked at your engine pictures but can't see what the fuel pressure gauge reads. Put a gauge after the regulator and turn it down to correspond to the carb your using. You'll probably have to slow the fuel down that is returning to the tank because it appears to be 'swirling' with 10 gals in the tank and getting air in the lines. To test this theory, clamp the return line off a bit using a pair of vice grips to squeeze down on the line.

Thanks alittle 1,
The bozo's (a speed shop) that converted this truck removed the stock tank pump and added a hose from the top of the sending unit to the bottom section where the pump would be mounted (plastic spring loaded sending unit).
I have had this sending unit out twice when the P.O. owned the truck and found nothing wrong with this hose set-up, It does sit on the bottom of the tank.
They installed a Holley pump on the frame even with the bottom of the tank ran to a NON return style regulator, The gauge is on the regulator and adjusted to 6 lbs. pressure.
The truck runs like a raped ape just leaves about 10 gals of fuel in the tank, This makes long trips to car shows a pain. I have to stop for fuel every 100 or so miles to assure I don't run out.
Thanks !
