4.375" should be possible. Keep in mind that capscrew rods usually help gain clearance here and will minimize grinding. It will require a pan with notched pan rails and it might require a little extra grinding at the buttom of the bores. You can't do much grinding on the pan rails of the block though as the main oil galley runs through this area on one side.

I think that pump-gas compression would be fine with a pretty big shot of nitrous as long as you switch in some high octane fuel when you spray. Especially running a 350 shot will require you to run the best fuel you can find.

I say to take the most advantage of the nitrous to use a Victor Jr. intake, a Comp NR276HR cam, and keep the compression around 9.0-9.5:1.

BBC short decks are short compared to other big blocks,a 4.25 stroke is the most I would put in.Piston pins and rings are already a issue with 6.385 rods and 4.250 stroke which is the longest rod possible and puts you back with a 454 rod to stroke ratio around a acceptable 1.52 or so.Internal balance is of course the best route,Probe has a 496 strokerkit with offset piston pins and 6.250 rods to stay out of the ring lands. The offset is to reduce the piston skirt side loading for less friction, haven't heard much on this kit to know if it really works.   WIEDER

Wieder,

Do you know if the Gen VII 8.1L engine used the same 9.8" deck as the older big Chevys? I'm positive that engine used a 4.375" stroke and a 6.135" rod or something very close to it.
