pace performance sells a 383 sbc as a direct replacement for my tired 350. they advertise 340 hp and 440 lbs ft tq. i am trying to replicate this engine by building it myself. i am using an eagle balanced rotating assembly w/ -12cc dishtops. i intend to use the ht 383 hydraulic roller camshaft that comes in the engine that pace sells.
first eagle says this combo will make 10 to 1 compression w/ stock 64cc vortec heads. is this to much compression? they also claim their engine is a direct replacement-since the fuel system is mass air flow the management system will auotomatically make up for the extra cubes.
secondly if you look up the cam by part number on pace's web sight it says the computer will have to be re-flashed. which is it? will 10 to one run in my pickup on pump gas?

Stock compression for your factory motor was just above 9:1, so if you can keep it from going above 10:1, you should be ok, though you might have ot run at least 89 octane.

Sounds like the motor that Pace sells is the GM Performance Parts HT383. The cam in the engine is designed to work with the stock computer in your '96. The motor might run a little funny at first as the computer "learns" the new motor, but it'll smooth out in short order. Just don't go beating on the engine until the computer gets enough cycles to adapt to the new engine.

I putting a 383 in my 96GMC and I was also not shure if my stock injection system will be able to supply the engine with enough fuel.  The application I am using should make 425hp and 460ft-tq.  I am using vortech heds just have head work done to then so i am also using the stock intake system system off of my 350 vortech.
