I just bought a 78' chevy malibu I want to renovate it, anyway it's leaking oil and smoking? I also hear a rattle in the engine when I press the gas?

Is this just the gaskets and headers? Should I do a complete overhaul?

Also, it stalls while idling in drive? carbeurator?

I had a 79 malibu and loved it. Drove it for 8 years. I allways had problems with the distributor cap not staying in the same place with mine but sounds like you have more serious problems. Which engine you have? I would love to see photos.
