we have a 96 vortec 350 installed in a 55 chevy pickup using the original fuel injection. we used an aftermarket edelbrock water pump that has the bypass hole cast in it. the accessories and water pump run on standard v-belts so everything is at least turning the right direction. however, the vortec block does not have the matching hole for the bypass because they use a fancy-dancy bypass/thermostat instead. we do not have the correct two-way thermostat housing or thermostat so there's no place for the water to circulate when the thermo is closed. we simply hate the look of that housing on our nice pickup. for now, we have drilled a single 1/8" hole in the thermo for some circulation until the thermo opens. we think this is crude, and we were thinking...why not just use the old gasket from the early style pump with the bypass hole for a template and drill the hole in the block. what do you think of this brainchild idea?
