Hi guys...Before I start, I will say I have NO knowledge of rebuilding a motor but I do know that a 350 is better than a 305 BUT here is my problem...I have an 87 Monte Carlo SS that came out with the 305 cu in HO engine. Yes it isn't my favorite choice of motors but hey, that's what GM wanted to put in it. Well, wanting to try to keep the car as original as possible such as keeping the original motor in the car, I do however, want to tweak it. I want to bore it over to match up with a 350. I want to increase the horsepower in it. I also want to put a nice cam in it so when you pull up at the light, it draws attention. I am not looking for a drag car by any means but just something with a bad sound to her. I do have a reserved budget as I am not working at the time so any help on keeping the cost down is appreciated on your suggestions on what I can do....Thanks for you help with this.

Daily driver right? 305 blocks are thin like the heads are, 30 over is about it.GM started shaving weight on engines around the late 70's I guess to help mileage and whatever else.Do you have emission testing? Let us know WIEDER

Attract attention? Sound nasty? You're on the wrong board my friend. I would check out Super Street or Import Tuner mag, not CHEVY HIGH PERFORMANCE.

my advice to you is have a shop do a stock rebuild on it.get an aftermarket cam that will produce more torque and hp,yet still be computer compatable.if i were you,id keep it as original as possible, maybe throw on a good exhaust to help it breathe.not too many monte ss's left, so try to hang on to it and enjoy,as they are a great cruising vehicle.

Crane CompuCam 2030 or CompCams TPX254HR-15 high vaccum cams.Edelbrock intake #3706 w/EGR and get a new chip to match, same with your compter Q-Jet carb.Do you have local carb shop that really knows this type of Q-Jet? The lope at idle you want and stay streetable is not really going to happen. WIEDER

Yes, it would be a somewhat daily driver. Fortunately, we do not have to get our vehicles emission tested yet. I do have flowmaster mufflers on it without the cat. converter. It still has the original Quadrajunk carb on it which probably needs overhauling (we have somebody local good with that). I am hoping these cars will be collector items someday as to why I am only trying to do internal cosmetic work so it still looks as original as possible as I will not do anything wild to the body either. I will also keep the paint original as well. Thanks for your info and if you have anything else to help me out, I appreciate it.
