I just had a 350 out of a 1991 caprice get balanced. They added weight to the front counterweight. Is this considered normal. The block has been bored .30 over. Thanks

Scat crank has kits with internal crank and external flexplate for 350's and they also note that heavymetal ( mallory) might have to be done. WIEDER

So adding weight to a stock crank is normal then?

If your flexplate or flywheel is a external balance then I would say that's why.If not somebody else will have to step in on this subject. From what I'm gathering 86 and up that are one piece rear main seal have external flex or flywheels besides roller cams and a smaller flange to bolt on the flex.   WIEDER

The later model small blocks still use internal balancing just the like the early motors except for the 400.

Since O.E. production tolerances are that tight, it's not surprising to see a factory crank that needs some extra weight to balance everything out. especially when matching it up to the rods and pistons.

I wouldn't sweat it.
