hey i got a 1981 trans am with a 305 that is toast i was thinking of putting a 350 in it, i got a 1978 4 bolt main 350 out of a chevy truck that i am rebuilding, my car has a auto with 4.56 12 bolt posi rear end and i am hoping to get my trans am into the 12s or low 13s in the quarter mile i was wondering what cam and head combo would work best for my setup i know i gotta go aluminum heads and i want to stick with a hydraulic flat tappet cam

I would recommend something like Isky PN 201284-6, or something similar. Be warned that this cam requires a VERY effective exhaust system as it is a single pattern and on a very narrow lobe seperation. Any backpressure will cause severe losses, more severe in the case of 106° LCA versus a 110°. But the narrow lobe separation favors maximum output if everything else is accounted for. You will need to get your compression up as well to handle a camshaft of this size, as increased compression also assists exhaust velocity. A 4.56:1 gear is pretty low; you will need a aftermarket stall converter to match it (maybe around a 3000).

Yes 3000 stall with 4:56,but that means a strong shortblock that can handle 6500 rpm's.at least 10:1 compression CompCam 12-250-3 240int duration.Single plane intake and Beehive springs with cam kit.TrickFlow 190+cc,Dart or AFR 195 comp.heads would match good. Now think about traction, this combo would get really sideways.Almost a trailer car 450-500hp is my guess.    WIEDER
