right now it is a 75 el camino, stock except for some minor exhaust work, and previous owner put a 4 bbl quadrajet on it that is too big, and it runs wayyyy too rich.
has a bad knock, everyone says its a lifter, gonna look at it more this weekend when i have more time.
i planned on building this up and dropping it in some 60's camaro/firebird or something of the sort.

Most Q-Jets were 650 or less for CFMs, it's probably not that the carb's too big, but it's way out of tune. Someone might've put metering rods that were too big so it's pumping more fuel than it should. If you want Edelbrock stuff, get their Q-Jet and manifold combo, it'll install easier than an AFB combo and work just as good.
For short block rebuild, I'd get one of Summit's rebuild kits. They're cheap, come with everything, and use good parts. 400 HP from a moderately built 350 is no problem.

350?? what the no no no MAN you need to stroke that biznatch. can we say STROKER 383 u can thank me later dude.. oohh and keep in your heads kids thir is NO sub for cubes nope no way
yeah what he said your air/fuel mix is off to much petro not enough air. you need to lean it to the stock cailb. YOU only need to go richer if you have a blower. look at your plugs i bet they are fouled up good.

yeah, i looked more into it today, the knock is bad rod bearings. so im gonna tear the engine out friday and do a complete rebuild, am gonna stroke it to 383 also.
after that i will look more into dealing with the carb situation. this one looks pretty old and wore out. so i may rebuild it or get something else.
thanks guys.
